Carrie's 2nd Single

http://www.netmusiccountdown.com
Carrie's record label confirms that she was busy filming on the streets of Nashville last week working on video for "Don't Forget to Remember Me," her second single due at radio soon, no date set yet. Carrie tells Nashville IQ this new song is, "One for my mom. Whenever I heard it, I was really homesick at the time and it made me cry. My mom loves it, it's about a girl who's leaving home and that was me at the time. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous song."

Carrie Back On Idol

http://top40-charts.com
"American Idol 4 winner Carrie Underwood will return to the 'American Idol' stage this Thursday, March 2 to perform her No 1 smash single 'Jesus, Take The Wheel' nine months after she was crowned the 2005 winner.
'I had hoped to be able to make it back to the show this year to spend some time with the contestants,' says Underwood, 'so I am thrilled to be asked to perform. It is a very intense time for the contestants and if there is any advice I can share to help them through, I am glad to do that. And how fun it will be to not be judged!' "

Introducing Carrie To Australia

http://top40-charts.com/
""We wanted them to actually write songs for me instead of writing songs and me listening to them," Carrie told MTV. "I just kind of bounced around from room to room and they'd play me what they were coming up with. It was really great just because I got to meet them and hang out with them and they learned a lot about me, so the songs were definitely more treated to me.

"Writing is something that I'm very interested in doing, and I think it was really good for me to be around them to see the process that they go through to write."
And while Carrie is predominantly a country artist, she has a broad appeal that reaches out to pop lovers too.

"Because of my exposure on the show I can't really help but appeal to other people than just country-music listeners," Carrie explained.
"I am a country music artist first and foremost, but we were trying to hopefully appeal to many different people. And some songs turned out more country than we thought they would and some turned out a lot more new contemporary. I think it all sounds good together."

Carrie - Fastest Selling Female Debut Country Album

http://toledoblade.com/
Just a couple of weeks ago, I got the news that Carrie Underwood’s album, “Some Hearts,” had sold more than 2.2 million copies. Well, they are apparently flying off the shelves because this week, word comes that Underwood has now sold more than 3 million copies, making the album the fastest-selling debut country album for a woman in history.
Obviously, Underwood has generated a lot of her sales based on her success on “American Idol,” but she continues to build on momentum from her chart-topping debut single, “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” The follow-up single, “Don’t Forget to Remember Me,” is skyrocketing as well. This week, it is at No. 31 on the Radio and Records chart - only a couple weeks into its run.
Of the 20 weeks that “Some Hearts” has been in release, it has spent
15 weeks at the top of Billboard’s Country Albums chart. It’s looking more and more like the album has a chance of entering the Shania Twain stratosphere of 10 million sales.

Carrie To Tour With Kenny Chesney

http://www.ktvu.com/

"Blond-haired country singers are a dime a dozen, but Carrie Underwood, 21, showed she's more than just another Faith Hill clone this week with a stunning version of Heart's "Alone." The performance vaulted her into the elite status."

Carrie: Graceful Idol Winner

http://www.andpop.com/

"Then there's Carrie Underwood. She has "handled" her win with grace, never shying away from that fact that she is now one of country's hottest artists because of her success on American Idol. Does winning the show take away form her credibility? Absolutely not. People aren't buying her album because they like the show. They buy her album because they love her music. The show was just a gateway into their homes, and Underwood appreciates the opportunity. "The country world seems so grateful that America voted in one of their own," Underwood tells andPOP. "They're proud to call me the American Idol and I'm proud to be called that. I don’t see myself trying to detach myself from [the show] any time soon."

Carrie's First Job

http://www.metronews.ca/
"My first job, I worked at a gas station. I was an attendant there. I don’t know how gas stations are anywhere else in the world, but in Oklahoma, old men will sit down and drink coffee and read the paper and shoot the breeze with you so it was fun. I had a good time. I learned how to work a cash register."

Carrie On "Don't Forget To Remember Me"

http://www.netmusiccountdown.com/
"Because of the subject matter of the song, Carrie considers it her and her mother's song.

"I was the last of three girls and the next sister up is three years older than I am, so my sisters were much older than me and when they left it was pretty much me and my mom, so I'd just hang out with my mom. So, we were close, a lot closer than a lot of mothers and daughters are. We love each other very much and she was the one I missed the most when I left home, so it's our song."

Carrie Wants Other Idols To Sing Her Songs

http://www.andpop.com/
"If they approach Carrie Underwood, the winner of last season's American Idol, they won't have to deal with all the setbacks. She would be flattered if contestants chose to sing her songs.

"If anybody wants to sing my songs, I'd be happy to let them," Underwood tells andPOP. "I'd be honoured."

She says she has yet to be approached about the issue by American Idol producers, but she thinks it's probably because the season is still in its auditioning stages."

Carrie Interviewed By CBS News

http://www.cbsnews.com/

"The country music community has really embraced me because America has voted in one of their own," Underwood tells CBSNews.com. Singing the country tunes she was best known for on "American Idol," Underwood is currently debuting her first album, "Some Hearts." The first single is “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” which struck a chord with Underwood because "it tells a great story." While Underwood doesn't believe her writing chops are good enough yet to write songs for the album, songwriting is something she is interested in. "

Carrie In Cosmo + Allure

http://www.starpulse.com/
"American Idol winner Carrie Underwood graces the cover of Cosmo Girl! magazine's first-ever prom issue. Carrie shot the photo spread in Milwaukee, WI, elegantly styled in numerous prom dresses, during a day-off from the "American Idol Live 2005" tour this past summer. The issue will remain on stands through May.

Carrie is also featured in the January issue of Allure magazine as photographed by Michael Thompson. She is seen in a beaded gown by Giorgio Armani and says she is "still not comfortable being dressed up." The February issue of Teen Vogue finds her modeling a Samantha Treacy dress as photographed by David Bailey. Although a country performer, she shares a secret that "in the mornings I need something upbeat, so I pick out really hard rock songs" [to listen to]. Both photo sessions took place in New York City earlier this Fall and are on stands now."

Very Positive Album Review

http://www.themonitor.com/
"It’ll be hard to forget the album of this fresh new talent on the country music scene. The power behind her voice projects the strength of her conviction as a performer while demonstrating a sweet musical quality that’s nothing but pleasant.

There’s nothing imaginary about the intense passion of Underwood’s voice that flows smoothly with any instrument, strings or keyboards. Her music reflects a broad range of experiences, of burdens too heavy to bear, of romantic liaisons, of joy and regret."

Now RIAA-certified Double Platinum (recognizing sales of 2,000,000 units), Some Hearts also earns the separate distinction of becoming the fastest-certified debut country album ever released, even as the disc's powerful lead single, 'Jesus, Take the Wheel,' hits No 1 on this week's Billboard country airplay chart. Some Hearts - Negative Review

http://magazine.angrycountry.com/
"Many of the songs, such as the Diane Warren title track, are emotionally generic, and the Nashville factory production simply adds to the blandness. When Underwood gets a lyric with some substance, such as the redemptive "Jesus, Take the Wheel" or the edgy "Before He Cheats," she digs right in, as she does for the rollicking "We're Young and Beautiful." Where she really shines is on her self-penned wide-eyed travelogue "I Ain't in Checotah Anymore," which says more and fits her better than a dozen songs from the Nashville pros.

It's not exactly surprising that Underwood's debut would find her vocals in great form but her artistic voice yet to fully form. As she did on American Idol, she displays great technical chops and exudes the charisma of a seasoned performer. What's still missing is a personal style, particularly in song selection. A year or two on the road, singing this album and drumming up (or, hopefully, writing) material for her sophomore release should solidify her connection to the material. In the meantime, this is a professionally produced and strongly sung debut that has enough highpoints to entice radio and merit a spin or two at home. "

Carrie's Busy Schedule

http://www.realityreel.com/
"In addition to the remarkable radio airplay, Carrie has only just begun a slate of television performances which will remind fans of the spectacular voice and charismatic stage presence that earned her the top spot at this year’s American Idol competition. Ms. Underwood’s performance at the recent CMA Awards made show history when she became the first artist with only one single to secure a coveted performance and presenter slot on the biggest Country Music primetime television show of the year. Carrie also recently performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and on the Today Show and will perform on The View today. She is scheduled to make appearances on Ellen and the Billboard Awards. In addition, Carrie will bring some holiday cheer to television audiences by singing Christmas songs on shows like Dr. Phil, TNT’s upcoming “Christmas in Washington” special and on the annual Christmas at Rockefeller Center. Carrie will be the subject of a profile on NBC’s Dateline in early December as well as a profile on CMT’s “In The Moment” on December 16th. "

Carrie Sells 314,000 Albums The First Week

http://realitytv.about.com/
"American Idol winner Carrie Underwood's debut album "Some Hearts" sold 314,000 units in its first week of release, which makes her the highest debuting new artist in the country genre since the SoundScan music charts began. Carrie's CD is also the highest charting album for a debut artist in 2005. Not bad for a simple girl from Checotah, Oklahoma. (And in case you're keeping track, Carrie's CD sales beat the first week numbers of both Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia Barrino's debut discs.)"

Carrie Welcomed In Nashville

http://www.rctimes.com/
"Within a month of being named the "American Idol" in front of 6,000 people at Universal Studios in Hollywood (and 33 million TV viewers worldwide), Underwood was in Nashville performing at the Gaylord Entertainment Center for a CMT greatest duets show. Within days of that, Underwood was at the CMA Music Festival on the big stage at the Coliseum.

Now, Underwood:

• Has a deal with Arista Records, home to Alan Jackson;

• Landed high-profile producers Dann Huff (Faith Hill, Lonestar) and Mark Bright (Rascal Flatts, Jo Dee Messina) to make her freshman album, Some Hearts, released last Tuesday;

• Saw her first single, Jesus, Take the Wheel, make chart history by becoming the first single by a new artist to debut inside the Top 40 on country charts since BDS monitoring started in 1990;

• Made CMA Awards show history last Tuesday by becoming the first artist with only one single out to get a performance slot and a presenter slot."

Carrie's Album Selling Well

http://www.channeloklahoma.com/
"Country singer Carrie Underwood's debut album "Some Hearts" is enjoying brisk sales at retail outlets across the state after hitting the shelves on Tuesday.

The Checotah native performed at the County Music Association awards in New York on Tuesday, singing the ballad "Jesus, Take the Wheel," the first single off the album.

"Her performance last night on the CMAs was wonderful," said Kevin Christopher, programming director at KKNG-FM "King Country" in Oklahoma City. "It's a good song. I think she's got the look and sound and I think she'll do well, but only time will tell."

Review of Carrie's Album

http://blogs.phillyburbs.com/
"The 14-track album fails to offer any major surprises from Carrie, except for the track “Before He Cheats,” which is a song about a girlfriend seeking revenge, which is atypical given the starlet’s good-girl-from-next-door image. “I Ain’t in Checotah Anymore” could be the clean-cut anthem to make Carrie Underwood a legitimate music star. Despite the fact that “Some Hearts” is a strictly pedestrian affair, one can expect this album to sell millions of copies and be a big hit especially with the Wal-Mart audience."

Carrie's Musical Fantasy

http://www.mtv.com/
""I have to add this disclaimer," she said with a chuckle of "Before He Cheats." "It's actually about a girl that is at home and she's thinking
about stuff that her boyfriend is probably doing. And she's thinking about him being at some bar with some girl and she gets really angry and she goes outside and destroys his mode of transportation. Which is something I would never do, but it's really fun to sing about. I know it would be so fun. She takes a baseball bat to it and everything. That would be awesome!"

"Before He Cheats" will be included on Some Hearts, due November 15. Underwood, the reigning "American Idol" champ (see "'Did He Just Call My Name?' — Carrie On Her Big Win"), has written her own material before, but recruited pros for the songs on her first album."

Interview With Carrie

http://www.dailypress.com
"CARRIE UNDERWOOD

Age: 21

Hometown: Checotah, Okla.

Best song of the competition: "Alone" (Heart)

Show ranking: winner

Q: You and Bo each released a version of "Inside Your Heaven" as a single. Whose was better?

A: I've honestly never sat down and listened to his. We brought our own individual talents to the table.

Q: How is it working out with 10 of you on the road at once?

A: Nobody really knew what to expect, but we're getting used to it. I'm all about schedules, and I made sure I had plenty of them. I love to know what I'm doing and when I'm doing it, so I always know what's going on.

Q: Then how are you spending your days off from the tour?

A: The first one, we all went to the mall. It's nice to sleep in, maybe go out and eat at a real restaurant. It's nice to go and sit down and pretend to be normal.

Q: Don't you get recognized when you're in public?

A: Oh yeah, particularly when I'm with somebody else from the show. If there's two of us, it's confirmation. We all love it, though. Most of the time. It does get kind of weird when I'm in the bathroom and people start asking me questions.

Q: Since you won the competition, are you the star of this tour?

A: I do go on last, but we're all in this together. We all stay at the same places; we're all on the same bus together. I want it that way, too. I mean, there's going to be moments where we all hate each other, but everybody's great.

Q: Who is the biggest flirt on the tour?

A: Constantine. Everywhere we go. Everywhere we go.

Interview grade: A-minus, sunny and gracious"

Carrie - Not An Idle Success

http://www.thetandd.com/
"As we acknowledge Carrie Underwood's achievement, it's obvious that she is an all-American individual who deserved the title "American Idol." The idle that's watching television in the cartoon does not exhibit any of the American characteristics of individualism, competitiveness or desire to win, and certainly he has nothing to brag about. Turn the television set off. Be a productive member of society."

The night ended with Underwood's single ``Inside Your Heaven,'' and the rest of the nine final contestants joined her onstage. As an encore, the Idols sang the classic ``Lean on Me'' and ``ROCK in the USA.'' "

Why Carrie Won (Tounge In Cheek)

http://www.journalnow.com/
"The new new South - the victor - is Republican; it's cheerful, it's Bible-happy, it's home to Southwestern states such as Texas and Oklahoma. It's also home to Carrie Underwood, 22, an Oklahoman and our latest American Idol.

Underwood's hymns to this upbeat, pious utopia defy regionalism; they're triumphalist pop-country hits in which falling in love is mysteriously connected to finding God and being free and becoming famous. Her trademark cover song is "Independence Day," by Martina McBride, in which a woman gets jubilant revenge on her battering husband. The anthem has Easter imagery, vengeance and big joy."

Carrie In Curlio

http://www.curlio.com/

"Carrie Underwood sang "Crying," which Clive picked for her. I thought it was a completely brilliant performance. Clive said she did a strong job. Randy said there is a real competition going on. Paula thought it was brilliant. Simon would rather have heard the song stripped down and gave the first round to Bo.

For herself, Carrie picked "Making Love out of nothing at all." She had a rough start, but it was a great song. She had one really fantastic note in the song that was truly amazing. Clive said she did a good job. Randy and Paula liked it, but Simon thought that Carrie may have strained the middle too much.

Carrie ended the night with Randy's pick for her, "Man I feel like a woman." I thought the first part of the song was too low for Carrie and should have been brought up higher. She was moving and having fun, but I wasn't wild about the song. Clive said that country-pop is Carrie's element. Randy and Paula agreed once again, saying they liked to see Carrie having fun. Simon felt that Carrie did enough to get her to the finals, which is a big change from his standard "you're going to win" attitude with her."

McGurgan On Underwood

http://www.phillyburbs.com/

Carrie, Carrie, Carrie. Have you been packing on some pounds in recent weeks? I know, maybe the stress of Idol life has been getting to you. Well, you better lay off the midnight snacks before your butt blows up to the size of Ryan Seacrest’s ego.

As for Carrie's performances this week, I’ve seen dead corpses with better stage presence. This week Carrie was emotionally detached from every song she sang, especially Shania Twain’s “I Feel Like a Woman.” While Shania sold that song with sex appeal, Carrie sold it with snooze appeal.

Carrie is reminiscent of those young child singers on the ‘Al Alberts’ Showcase,’ who get dressed up with full makeup and mimic adults and sing gooey love songs even though they have no idea what they’re singing about. Let’s face facts folks, Carrie stinks and if she ends up becoming the next ‘American Idol’ then the terrorists will have won. "

Underwood Sings Three

http://www.realitytvmagazine.com
"The main question comes down to which of the two girls will Bo Bice be facing in the final performance show. While Carrie Underwood didn’t have the showstopping performance that Bo did, she did deliver three very good performances. Carrie started off by singing “Crying”, which seemed very appropriate considering how she acted when Anthony Fedorov was sent home last week. Paula called the performance, “poignant, brilliant, and subdued”, but Simon thought it was “a little wooden” and called “round one for Bo.” For her second performance, Carrie sang “Making Love Out of Nothing at All.” This selection went over better with most of the judges, and Clive told Carrie that her voice “soared.” On Carrie’s final performance, she went country with “Man, I Feel Like a Woman.” After which Simon said, “I think that was enough to get you in the final.” Reality TV Magazine ranks Carrie Underwood as the second best performer of the night."

|

Carrie Sings "Crying", "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All", and "Man! I Feel Like A Woman."

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7889270/page/2/
Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: Underwood didn’t get any favors from Clive Davis. He saddled her with "Crying," sung by Roy Orbison and k.d. lang, and it resulted in a blah arrangement that Underwood had a hard time doing much with. Underwood’s voice was powerful when it needed to be, but it was one of those rare occasions when she didn’t nail the last note.
Her choice for her second song was nearly as unexpected as Bice’s. She could have picked any of hundreds of songs that would allow her to put on her cowboy hat and strut her stuff, and she went with … "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" by Air Supply. Air Supply?! She went away from her strength of country pop, but she still impressed the judges. The performance was a bit stiff, but the arrangement accentuated the power notes and Underwood did a nice job blasting them home. Randy Jackson returned her to her roots by having her sing "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" by Shania Twain, and Underwood took advantage to give her best overall performance of the night.
Grade: B
The judges:"You did it in your own way. Good job." – Clive Davis, after "Crying."
"You really got to power your voice, which you do so brilliantly and effortlessly." – Paula Abdul, after "Making Love Out of Nothing at All."
"I’m just happy to see you having some fun out there." – Randy Jackson, after "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!"
Odds of winning: 43 percent
Odds of advancing: 85 percent
The bottom line: It’s the second week in a row that Underwood hasn’t been at her best when the stakes are high. That could leave her in danger of being voted off, but she entered the night ahead of Solomon in the voting and probably did enough to maintain her edge.

Both Sides of Carrie

http://www.usatoday.com/

"Carrie Underwood really explored the extremes. Since one of the themes of the night was country, our Oklahomie had a built-in advantage. Seemingly on a desperate mission to show she possesses sass and personality, she not only chose the Dixie Chicks' raunchy rave-up Sin Wagon but actually sang the key line that probably prevented it from becoming a country single: "I'm gonna do a little bit of mattress dancin' " That's right, our little Carrie said "mattress dancin'." Not too many ways you can interpret that sentiment. All in all, she just about proved her point.

Since the other theme of the night was the songs of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, the great Philadelphia production/songwriter team behind huge hits by The O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes with Teddy Pendergrass, The Intruders, the Soul Survivors and many more, Carrie had a built-in disadvantage. Soul is probably not her strong point in general, and specifically she demonstrated that proposition with the most anemic, tuneless version of Melvin and Pendergrass' If You Don't Know Me by Now you could ever imagine. She had no clue what to do with the verse and recovered only marginally on the chorus. A new low, though I still think she's bulletproof."

|

A Different View of Underwood

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7794791/
"Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: What were the odds that Carrie was going to screw up a country song? Answer: Zero percent – she led the show off with "Sin Wagon" from the Dixie Chicks, and though she ran out of steam at the end of the song it was still impressive. Good thing, too, because her version of Gamble and Huff’s "If You Don’t Know Me By Now" was her worst performance of the competition, and certainly won’t make anyone forget the Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes version. While Simon blamed the mediocrity on the band, Underwood didn’t do much to work with the admittedly bizarre arrangement.
Grade: B-
The judges: "That was the equivalent of you singing in the shower — you do that effortlessly. It was very, very, very, very good — and you showed some personality." — Simon Cowell, after "Sin Wagon."
"It was one of those things for me tonight, it just didn’t work." — Randy Jackson, after "If You Don’t Know Me By Now."
Odds of winning: 48 percent
Odds of advancing: 95 percent
Bottom line: Underwood would be in trouble if this was her first week on the show; her best song led off the competition, and may be overshadowed by her mediocre performance later in the show. Still, it’s hard to imagine she doesn’t have enough fans to pull her through, especially since nobody else really shone in both performances."

|

Carrie Sings "Sin Wagon" and "If You Don't Know Me By Now"

http://www.curlio.com/
"First up was Carrie Underwood starting off the country theme. She sang "Sin Wagon" by the Dixie Chicks. She was perfectly in her element, moving around the stage. She was completely at ease up there. Randy heaped the praise upon her, I thought he was never going to stop. Paula said that Randy said it all, which is true, he went on long enough to have said it all. Simon said that had she not gotten this one right it would have been a shock. For her, he said, it's like singing in the shower. He also pointed out that she showed some personality.

Carrie, who sent a message out to her sisters, sang "If you don't Know me by now." I thought it was a good performance and it sounded like she's got a touch of soul in her. The judges didn't like it nearly as much as I did however, with Randy and Paula thinking it just didn't work for them. Simon blamed it on the arrangement and the band. Personally I thought it was nice, but more about that later."

Dave McCurgan on Carrie

http://www.phillyburbs.com/

"Carrie Underwood - Carrie said she picked a sassy song to sing this week, which is ironic because she’s the least sassy of the remaining Idols. She relies on her good looks to compensate for the fact that she has as much stage presence as a head injury patient coming out of coma. Unfortunately, the music business bends over backwards to suckle good looking people with no imagination and little talent. It’s looking more and more like Carrie will become the next Idol, even though she lacks genuine artistic talent and is a thoroughly boring entertainer. "

Underwood Again

http://www.usatoday.com
"My other prime prospect for the finals, Carrie Underwood, also tackled an Elvis song, T-R-O-U-B-L-E, injecting as much raunch and sass as she could, to the point of kicking over the mikestand. While it's tough, even ludicrous, to buy her as the personification of evil the song proclaims its singer to be, she wailed."

"Same for Carrie's current choice, Rascal Flatts' treacly country ballad The Broken Road, on which she too fell prey to the Idol tic of oversinging like crazy.

|

Carrie's Performance

http://www.realitytvmagazine.com
"Carrie Underwood definitely showed that she is over the cough that she has had in previous weeks. Carrie sang “Trouble” and “Bless the Broken Road." Paula summed up her performances best by telling Carrie, “You’re a star.” Reality TV Magazine ranks Carrie Underwood as a very close second best performance of the night."

|

Underwood Sings "Trouble" and "Bless The Broken Road"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7725646/page/2/
"Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: Underwood closed off the Lieber and Stoller half-hour with another Elvis tune, "Trouble." One thing’s for sure … she’s not in trouble at all, as all three judges were impressed despite an arrangement that was somber at both ends and super peppy in the middle. For her Top 40 selection she picked, stunningly enough, a country tune – Rascal Flatts’ "Bless The Broken Road." Again, she impressed everyone. If she gets a chance to sing country songs every week from here on out, she’s a lock to win it all.
Grade: A-
The judges: "It was so much fun to see a whole different side of you. This was my favorite of your performances … you’re a star." – Paula Abdul, after "Trouble."
Odds of winning: 45 percent
Odds of advancing: 99 percent
Bottom line: Underwood hasn’t been in the bottom three yet, and it would be a stunner if she landed there this week. She’s one of the judges’ favorites, has a strong fan base both in studio and at home, and picks songs she’s comfortable singing. With less than a month to go in the competition, Underwood’s the one to beat."

Another Carrie Opinion

http://www.al.com

Carrie Underwood, 21 from Checotah, Okla.
Funny how a country girl can become a lightning rod for debate. Revered by some (fresh!). Scorned by others (bland!). Possesses a strong, supple voice and the ability to belt 'em out. Lacks edge, but has been trying to develop one with songs such as "Love Is a Battlefield" and "Piece of My Heart." Judge Cowell has been an advocate from the start, which usually means a verdict in her favor. Young, pretty and pretty easily molded if the other Svengalis at "Idol" deem her worthy as crown princess.
Prediction: Top two, locked in a tight race with Bice. Could become Kelly Clarkson's successor - unless she does something stupid like insult Simon.

More Carrie

http://www.usatoday.com
"Carrie Underwood returned to the upbeat country she clearly prefers, but committed the fatal error of music-show contestants (both Idol and Nashville Star) by choosing a Martina McBride song. Even though the rollicking When God Fearin' Women Get the Blues is one of Martina's less challenging vocal exercises, a singer can't help but sound inferior, and while Carrie displayed some energy, the vocal fire was lacking."

|

Carrie Sings "When God Fearing Women Get The Blues"

http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/
"Carrie Underwood sang "When God Fearing Women Get the Blues." Randy thought she had pitch problems, and Paula didn't like the song choice. Simon said that he personally didn't understand that kind of music (meaning country), but he thought her fans would love it. We don't think it was a bad performance, but Carrie has been off from her usual great performances for the last two weeks. We noticed that she coughed several times after the song, and we think that a sore throat could be affecting her voice. Reality TV Magazines ranks Carrie as the fourth best performance of the night."

Underwood's Performance Reviewed

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7646740/
"Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: For those who didn't know, Carrie Underwood comes from a small town. A farm, even! She fishes! She feeds the cows! Heck, Underwood did everything but show up in overalls and a cowboy hat, and anyone shocked by her choice of Martina McBride's "When God Fearin' Women Get the Blues" hasn't been paying attention to the competition thus far. If she's the winner, we can expect a whole lot of country in the celebrated album. The judges weren't very impressed, except for Simon. That said, she did well enough that it wouldn't be a shock if the "Nashville Star" folk from down the TV dial made her the winner of that show by acclimation.
Grade: B
Fun fact: Carrie's mother said she thinks Carrie may like animals more than people. It was a very down-home comment, particularly given the footage of her playing with the cat and feeding the cows. The judges: "I personally don't understand this kind of music – I'm English. But the people who do will absolutely love you after tonight." – Simon Cowell.
Stay or go: Simon Cowell, you're not fooling anyone. Everyone who has watched the show knows that he's salivating at the prospect of releasing Underwood's album should she win, and at this point the odds are in her favor. Despite the fact that she went first and didn't bring the house down, she's still all but assured of advancing."

Carrie Critiqued

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7564190/
"Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: In case anyone was curious, there are no nightclubs in Checotah, Oklahoma. Underwood made that quite clear in her intro to "MacArthur Park" by Donna Summer, also saying that her only performing experience to this style of music was dancing on her bed in her pajamas. If that visual didn't get every teenage boy's vote, she left nothing to chance by doing a nice job with the Donna Summer vocals, even if she picked the song humor columnist Dave Barry once decreed was the worst of all time.
Grade: B+
The judges: "I gotta give you the official welcome to the Dawg Pound. That was an unbelievable vocal." – Randy Jackson."I have to discuss that look. It's like Barbie meets the Stepford Wives." – Simon Cowell.
Stay or go: She's a lock to make it a whole lot further than this."

|

Another Underwood Opinion

http://www.phillyburbs.com/
"Carrie Underwood – Carrie professed complete ignorance of ‘70s music and didn’t even have a clue what the song she sang was about. It’s odd that someone aiming to have a career in music is so ignorant of music history. Do your homework, babe. Simon’s critique that she looked like Barbie meets The Stepford Wives was right friggin’ on. Sure, Carrie has a great voice, but her stage presence is limited to an unconvincing swiveling of her hips. Unfortunately, there’s more than enough room in the music industry for another dopey, hot chick that is lacking in talent (e.g., Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears.) "

|

Carrie Does Disco Night

http://www.usatoday.com/
"Carrie Underwood: Donna Summer's version of MacArthur Park (good thing she didn't try to emulate the original singer—Richard Harris) was a smart choice, in that's really a big ballad in disco clothing. It served as a good showcase for her pipes, albeit not without a few wobbly moments. (She really is vacuous, though—calling the tune a great song "despite the words." I'm sure Jimmy Webb, one of the world's pre-eminent songwriters, must have enjoyed that review, on the off chance that he was actually watching. Someone left her brain out in the rain.)"

|

Sepinwall Slams The Remaining Idols

http://www.nj.com/

Carrie is doing well because she's blond, she's pretty, she's from Oklahoma and, whenever possible, she sings country. She's already won the title of "Red State Idol." But while she has one of the best pure voices on the show, she has no personality. The one time she tried to inject some passion into her performance, last week on Pat Benatar's "Love Is a Battlefield," she got smacked down hard by the judges for daring to step out of her country box. You can bet she'll go back to smiling blandly and singing with a twang from here until the finals. "

Underwood Sings "Love Is A Battlefield"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com

"Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: Apparently shocked and saddened that Randy Jackson called last week's performance boring, Underwood went rocking with Pat Benetar's "Love Is A Battlefield." She mixed up some of the words, but odds were that nobody in the audience noticed until Randy pointed it out in the comments. It wasn't her best showing, but combined with her earlier choice of Heart's "Alone" it shows that she's more than a country girl trying to pose as a pop star. Moreover, it was a whole lot livelier than last week's effort.
Grade: B
The judges: "It was a little like watching a kitten trying to be a tiger." – Simon Cowell.
Stay or go: Underwood was successful in playing the role of a rock star. Sure, she forgot some words, but she could have been singing in Ancient Greek and gotten enough votes to move on. She's perfectly safe."

Carrie Graded

"Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: This wasn't Underwood's best performance, but all she had to do was get through "Hello, Young Lovers" from "The King and I" without falling on her face or forgetting the words. She managed that very well, though the most memorable part of the performance was that the hairstylist and makeup person had her looking exactly like Reese Witherspoon. She'll also benefit because Simon's criticisms were lost in disbelief that he's British enough to refer to detergent as "washing powder."
Grade: B
The judges: "That song. Really boring. I was starting to fall asleep. But you sang it – you sang it great." – Randy Jackson.

Carrie--A Non-US Perspective

"Is it Carrie Underwood? Last week, Carrie wowed the judges once more with her rendition of Independence Day. While she’s the strongest country music gal to take the "Idol" stage, that doesn’t mean the 21-year-old crowd favorite can’t handle other musical styles, she’s proven a bit of her versatility and we can’t wait to hear more. She’s the person to beat this season. Simon says: "You’ve got the IT factor, which is what it is all about." We say: She’s obviously Simon’s favorite but what the heck she’s one of our bets too. I'm rooting for Carrie Underwood. I picked her since the first time she sang. Great voice, beautiful look, and a real charm for personality. Someone who could be a great role model and "American Idol". I don't like Constantine. His voice isn't really that good and his rendition of "I Think I Love You " from the Partridge Family was one of the worst things I have heard this whole year on the show. — Mike, Appleton, Wis.
I think that Carrie Underwood is in the wrong competition. She should be on LeAnn Rimes' country competition, not this one. This is for pop/rock star. I am not totally convinced about Anwar either. Most of his songs sound the same, there isn't too much of a change in his style of music choices and his voice doesn't have that fluctuation some of the others have. — Kris, Amsterdam, NY"

Another Underwood Opinion

http://www.news-press.com/

"Blond-haired country singers are a dime a dozen, but Carrie Underwood, 21, showed she's more than just another Faith Hill clone this week with a stunning version of Heart's "Alone." The performance vaulted her into the elite status."

Ranking Carrie

http://www.jsonline.com

"By far, the most polished Idol finalist ever. While she's the strongest country music gal to take the "Idol" stage, that doesn't mean the 21-year-old Oklahoman can't handle other musical styles.

Slick her up a touch and uncountrify her a tad and you've got the successor to crossover star Shania Twain.

Prediction: She wins it all and, as the sagacious Simon Cowell forecasts, goes on to outsell all the previous "Idol" winners."

Underwood Reviewed

http://www.msnbc.msn.com

"Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: Underwood had a tough act to follow after all the accolades she received last week, but she didn't disappoint. She went back to country with Martina McBride's "Independence Day," and was great once again. She also said that before her first date, her father was in the living room cleaning out his shotguns, which only feeds the Country Carrie persona. It also might cut down on the number of fans attempting to google her home phone number.
Grade: A
The judges: "Great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great. That was the best performance of the night." – Randy Jackson.
Stay or go: Just go ahead and pencil Underwood into the competition until at least mid-May."

Carrie Sings "Independence Day"

http://www.curlio.com/

"Carrie Underwood returned to country tonight singing "Independence Day." I said her country was boring me, but now that she's proven to me that she can rock, I'm alright with it. I know she's not one dimensional either now. Her performance was excellent. She's got a beautiful voice and she gave me goosebumps tonight. Randy said it was a great performance and the best vocal of the night. Paula said it sounded wonderful. Simon said that Carrie has the "it" factor. "

"“I think Carrie will probably win the competition. She is beautiful, sweet and has a great voice. Three things that a lot of Hollywood stars aren’t. She is also diverse and proved that she’s more than a country singer.” —Simona
"Simon was wrong for calling it so early. Carrie has a nice voice, but she doesn’t have Vonzell’s personality, Constantine’s appeal, or Bo’s polished perfomance ability. I could listen to her but not watch her. It’s extremely boring." —Gwen"

Carrie--Next Idol?

http://www.elitestv.com/

"Carrie has a great voice but she has no stage presence, sparkle, or flare for performing onstage. She’s pretty, but in a non-descript way. If she makes it as Idol, I don’t think her strong suit will be performing before a live audience on the tour circuit, and for me, since I’ve been so spoiled by the notorious “Runner-Up Idol” from Season 2 in that department, and because the live, onstage factor is so important to me in the overall scheme of things for the winner, I can’t imagine Carrie in the number one spot. Can’t imagine her even as number three for that matter. "

Carrie--One More Opinion

http://www.phillyburbs.com/

"Carrie Underwood – Which was more awful – Carrie’s choice of a bad ‘80s song by Heart or her insanely over the top ‘80s style hair? She’s got a terrific voice, but needs some work on her stage presence. I think she’s rather bland, but some speculate she could she go all the way. In the competition that is. "

Reflection On Underwood's Performance...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7270406/

"Upon Further Review: This time, Ryan asked Paula to discuss Simon’s anointing of Underwood as the Idol of all Idols. Paula snipped that it was way too early to be making that statement, a natural reaction from the judge who loves everybody equally. But it didn’t change the fact that Underwood’s performance was the best of the night, and rebroadcasting it couldn’t have harmed her long-term chances."

Canadian Likes Carrie

http://www.metronews.ca

"This week's theme, Billboard number ones, let the Top 11 contestants kick things up a notch with a series of sizzling performances, beginning with Underwood's rendition of Heart's Alone.

Underwood's take on the '80s rock song was a far cry from her usual country ballads. Not only did she take a risk by singing something different, but she sang it like it was written for her."

Carrie's Best

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7270406/

"Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: Underwood looked like she was late for her senior prom, with her hair poofed up for her performance of "Alone" by Heart. But the performance was fantastic, and if she had lost some of her luster over the previous few weeks, she gained it back on Tuesday.
Grade: A
The judges: "It was your best performance yet. You were unbelievable tonight." – Randy Jackson.Stay or go: Um, duh. Underwood's a safe bet to stay until at least mid-April unless she totally falls off the planet in the meantime. She's certainly a lock to make it another week."

Underwood's #1

http://www.curlio.com/

"Next up was Carrie Underwood. After getting off to a good start on American Idol, she had gone down a bit in my opinion by choosing to stick to the country routine. She snapped that image quitely clearly tonight, singing "Alone" by Heart. Not only was her country song gone, her country look was gone too. She looked beautiful and sang beautifully. I was really impressed, possibly more so than I have been yet by her. If she keeps this up, she will definitely make it to the finals. Randy called it her best performance yt. Paula said her hat was off to Carrie. Simon went on to predict that Carrie isn't the girl to beat, she's the person to beat. He added that Carrie will not only win, but will sell more than any other American Idol contestant. I'm still not sure she'll win, I still think it will be a guy, but she could end up being stiff competition. "

Carrie Underwood--Updated Odds

The Winner Is...

http://www.phillyburbs.com/

"Carrie Underwood – The judges' harsh critiques of Carrie have definitely rattled her cage. In coming weeks her nerves will get the best of her. Carrie is too bland and mediocre to win the competition, even if America seems to approve of her middle-of-the-road country pop styles and her cute, but generic personality and style. "

Another Underwood Review

http://www.elitestv.com/

"Carrie Underwood - When will I be Loved
The low notes of this song were inaudible at best, and it was a really safe choice. But, as with many songs, this one ended on a really good note -- three, in fact (ha! A pun!). But I would be willing to bet if you took away that last three notes, it would detract so much from this performance. That's what many contestants seem to do -- tack on a big note at the end of any song, because it's the last thing we'll remember. "
|

More Carrie

http://www.phillyburbs.com/

"Carrie Underwood – Last night Carrie sang, “When Will I Be Loved?” and the answer is NEVER. America likes this kind of crappy, generic singer. Don’t get me wrong, she’d probably be the best singer at a karaoke bar and but she came off like a vapid floozy. Then again, Jessica Simpson has made a career out of it. "

Underwood Critiqued

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7202611/page/2/

"Carrie Underwood, 21, Checotah, Okla.: Underwood gave a somewhat blah performance of the Everly Brothers’ “When Will I Be Loved,” although she did somewhat redeem herself with a whiz-bang ending. Still, certainly not her best work to date.

Grade: C Simon compliment: “There are three people in this competition who actually know who they are musically, and you are one of them.”Stay or go: Although Randy and Paula slapped her on the wrist for not taking chances with her songs, Underwood has shown what she’s capable of before, and she likely will again."

Underwood is also no longer the book's favorite female to win; she was surpassed by Nadia Turner."

Carrie Sings "When Will I Be Loved"

http://www.curlio.com/new_showarticle.php?id=6873

"Carrie Underwood once again went country. True, she pointed out that "When will I be loved" was an Everly Brothers song. Too bad that the version Carrie sang was more the Linda Rondstadt version, which is much more country. Good voice, good performance, but how long will she get away with the whole country thing? Randy and Paula didn't like it. Randy said it was just okay. Paula called it safe and boring. It's not often I agree with Paula over Simon, but Simon decided to be nice to Carrie (perhaps he was blinded by her looks). Simon said that there are three people in the competition who know who they are and that Carrie is one of them (our guess is that Bo and either Nadia or Anwar are the other two). "
